The Printer is an interactive sculpture which prints out answers to questions spoken by participants. The voice-activated printer sits atop a ten-foot plinth and runs a live Max MSP “patch” which detects spoken words and subsequently triggers a print to fire. By appropriating the humble office printer as the basis for a divine oracle, the work recontextualizes one's relationship to quotidian technology - both for its technical capacity and appointed purpose.
